My Forever21 Bag Purchases

Last night I had way too much fun on the Forever21 website. I didn't really mean to buy anything. My goal was just to browse and kill time. Here is what I ended up buying. If you know me at all, you know that I definitely don't need anymore purses. They were too cute to resist!

Monday Reads: Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side

Here's what I am reading this week.

Synopsis: The undead can really screw up your senior year . . .

Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancé. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire war—and save Lucius’s soul from eternal destruction

Bath Time

I'm probably one of few people who never enjoyed taking baths. My friends would talk about taking a relaxing bath after a long day at work and I could never see the appeal. The few times I tried to take a bath I would quickly get bored. I can't seem to just sit still in silence. The few times I brought a book with me, I ended up destroying the book by getting it all wet. So, I gave up on baths all together. I recently moved into my own place and it has a great bath tub. I decided to give it a shot last week and I absolutely loved it. I can now appreciate taking some quiet time to de-stress at the end of a long day. I'm now excited to look for different bath soaps and candles. It has become a ritual of mine to take a few baths each week.

Monday Reads: The Complex

I discovered this author through Twitter (my new obsession) and had to download her book. This is what I am reading this week. Super excited to finish it. Look for a review soon.

The Complex by Cathy E. Zaragoza

Synopsis: Helena Linx is dying. Isolated and quarantined for over a decade, sixteen-year-old Helena lives in a virtual utopia run by a council of doctors bent on saving the world from a fatal and almost incurable disease. The pandemic has been contained, but she and hundreds of others are still waiting to be cured. Helena dreams of returning to the outside world and leaving behind the heavily regulated world of the Eyam Complex, a place where everything runs according to plan…until one fateful morning.

Things begin to change in the complex. And after everything dear to Helena—her father, her brother, and her boyfriend— is taken away, she finally gets what she wants.

But life on the outside isn’t what Helena expected. Never in her wildest dreams did Helena think that she’d leave Eyam only to become so desperate to get back in.

Wednesday Health and Beauty: Foundation

I have always been a powder foundation kind of girl. My skin can be super oily so every time I've tried liquid foundation I would look like my make up was melting off of my face by the end of the day. I heard about the Covergirl Natureluxe foundation and decided to give it a shot since winter this year was taking its toll on my skin, making it super dry in some areas. I was able to get this foundation for under $10 at Walmart. I've been using this for a couple of months and I wanted to use it regularly for a while before writing a review about it. I can now say that I really love this foundation. It lasts all day, provides medium coverage and it does not leave me looking greasy at the end of the day. I've found that this foundation looks best when I dust a thin layer of M.A.C's Studio Fix powder on top and a little bronzer. I've gotten compliments on my skin every time I've used this foundation. I will definitely be repurchasing.

Some new books

Today I went to Chapters and picked up a couple of new books. I did have many many books that I wanted to buy but I narrowed it down to two for today. Looking forward to reading these.

The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

I know this is an older book but I loved I've Got Your Number so much that I am now going back and reading some of her older works. This one looks funny and girl and will be a great fun quick read.

Synopsis: Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just done the unthinkable. She’s made a mistake so huge, it’ll wreck any chance of a partnership. Going into utter meltdown, she walks out of her London office, gets on a train, and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she’s mistaken for an interviewee and finds herself being offered a job as housekeeper. Her employers have no idea they’ve hired a lawyer—and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. She can’t sew on a button, bake a potato, or get the #@%# ironing board to open. How she takes a deep breath and begins to cope—and finds love—is a story as delicious as the bread she learns to bake. But will her old life ever catch up with her? And if it does…will she want it back?

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I have heard such great things about this book. I've been wanting to pick it up for a while now. Today I found it on the table that said "If you loved the Hunger Games you will love...." and I knew I had to pick it up. This is next on my list of books to read.

Synopsis: The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Monday Reads: a review + a new book

Review: Sophie Kinsella's I've Got Your Number

I finished this book a few days ago. So so so good!! I haven't read a good girly book in a while. This one was great because it often made me laugh out loud. I'm not a big fan of sappy romance books and I like my girly books to be funny and quirky (à la Bridget Jones). This definitely makes its way into my top ten funny girly books. Definitely pick this one up of you're looking for a fun and quick read. I am hoping to read Sophie Kinsella's Can You Keep a Secret soon.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

This is the book I am currently reading. It seems as though I am one f the last people to start this series. I found that it started off slowly but I a, about had way through and the story is getting quite interesting. I am looking forward to finishing it up and reading the others in the series.

Synopsis: When 15-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing, not even a smear of blood, to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within 24 hours, Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance when her mother disappears, and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary "mundanes" like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know.

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride they will never want to end.

Gratitude

It's so easy to take for granted all the things in our lives. It's so much easier to complain than it is to be thankful. Although I hate it when people complain, I have found that I do it myself...more than I would like to. I decided to try a little experiment. I bought a little agenda and since last Wednesday I have been posting things that make me happy (or things I am thankful for) each day. I'm hoping that this exercise will help me shift to more positive thoughts and I am also hoping that at the end, I will have a list I can look back on of things that make me smile. So far I am really enjoying writing my list down everyday and have found that it is such a wonderful way to get myself out of the funk I've been in for the past couple of weeks.

Try it out!

Thursday: Things I like this week (food/drink)

Here are some of my favourite foods/drinks this week:

Yoplait Tropical. I love tropical fruits and with flavours like banana pineapple, coconut and raspberry lychee, these yogurts are addictive!! I love them with granola cereal in the morning.

Kikkoman Miso Soup. I'm a big fan of miso soup and will usually order a bowl when I'm out for sushi. I picked up this bag of miso soup from the grocery store the other day. It's quite good for an instant soup.

Orange Cranberry Raspberry Juice. I came across this yesterday while grocery shopping and decided to give it a try. My new goal is to try a different type of juice flavour every time I run out. So far I this is my favourite. Tangy and sweet.

Smarties. My guilty pleasure candy. I've been super stressed all week and have found myself reaching for these delicious chocolates. Someone needs to hide my stash.

Tetley White Tea Raspberry. This is the best tea ever!! I think I just love everything that has raspberry in it. I've been drinking this while curled up with a good book. A great way to end the day.

Monday Reads: A Girly Book

A book that is not YA (shocking, I know). I was in the mood for something fun and girly. I saw this book at Chapters last time I was there and found the storyline to be quite interesting. It sounds like a feel good, laugh out loud chick lit book. I am about a quarter way through and so far I'm really enjoying it!!

I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

Synopsis: I’ve lost it. :( The only thing in the world I wasn’t supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It’s been in Magnus’s family for three generations. And now the very same day his parents are coming, I’ve lost it. The very same day! Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive :) !!

Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except that the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.

What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents . . . she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.
