The countdown has begun!

Yesterday I went to the elementary school Athletic Banquet and I cannot believe that a whole year has gone by already! I feel as though last year's banquet was only a few months ago. It has finally hit me...there are only 5 weeks of school left! How did it go by so fast? I am looking forward to a break but at the same time I am sad that it is almost over. Not knowing whether I will be back at that school next year is tough. I hate goodbyes! I must enjoy every second I have left..the good, the bad, the stressful, the funny and everything in between.

Hummingbird

Today I saw a hummingbird for the first time ever. I have always thought hummingbirds were beautiful but have only ever seen them in pictures. I was thinking about hummingbirds this week because one of the kids in my class mentioned seeing them often. I couldn't get to my camera quickly enough but am so happy to have seen it. Perhaps it is a good luck sign?

First hint of a summer tan!

After a rain filled week we finally got some gorgeous sunshiny and warm weather. It is actually starting to feel as though summer is getting closer! I took advantage of the great weather and took my kids out for gym class and for free time. Not only did I get to play outside, I also got a bit of a tan. Summer is just around the corner!!

Fun iPhone/iPad app

I usually don't download games on my iPhone because once I start playing (if it's a good game), I will have a hard time stopping until I have completed all levels. Yesterday I found a game called Big City NY. NY is what caught my eye and I ended up downloading it. It is a pretty simple game but is quite addictive. You travel around the city and visit famous landmarks and have to find hidden object in each location. It's kind of like a find Waldo game but better!

It's a school night...I should really put the phone down and go to bed.

I cannot wait for this!!

A couple of years before I graduated high school I discovered the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants books. I read the first two at least five or six times and eagerly awaited the release of books three and four in the series. I hoped that the story would go on forever but unfortunately it ended with the fourth book. I related to the girls in the story and could see my own friends within the characters and longed to be friends with the girls in the book. They made the first book into a movie and then made a second movie and somehow managed to cram the rest of the books into that one movie...not the best idea! Despite the failure of the movies I still love the books and was so excited to find out today that the author is releasing one more book that will meet up with the girls 10 years later. It comes out in June and I cannot wait to read it and be reunited with some of my favourite characters!

A great read

Those who know me know that I love to read. I always have one, two or sometimes even three (if I'm feeling adventurous) books going at a time. I've made it a habit to write down all the books I read in a little notebook so if someone asks me to recommend a book I can look back to my list. I also keep a notebook for a nerdier reason: I love to count how many books I read each year.

It is not often that I come across book that truly touches my heart. Although I read all time time, very few books make it on to my top ten list. I ordered this book randomly a few weeks ago because the synopsis sounded intriguing. When the book arrived in the mail, I opened it up to read a couple of pages (something I often do) to get an idea of the style. I ended up staying up past midnight reading. I can truly say that this book has made its way into my favourite books of all time and I will be recommending it to everyone!

Synopsis from Amazon:

In her twenties, Emily Wilson was on top of the world: she had a bestselling novel, a husband plucked from the pages of GQ, and a one-way ticket to happily ever after.

Ten years later, the tide has turned on Emily's good fortune. So when her great-aunt Bee invites her to spend the month of March on Bainbridge Island in Washington State, Emily accepts, longing to be healed by the sea. Researching her next book, Emily discovers a red velvet diary, dated 1943, whose contents reveal startling connections to her own life.

A mesmerizing debut with an idyllic setting and intriguing dual story line, The Violets of March announces Sarah Jio as a writer to watch.

Looking forward to this book

I have always loved the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's and always make a stop at the Tiffany's store in NYC every time I go there. I even once had "breakfast" at Tiffany's just like Audrey Hepburn did in the movie. I stood in the same spot, ate my pastries and had my picture taken. Anytime I see something having to do with Tiffany's, it catches my eye. This book is no exception! I cannot wait to read it :)

Synopsis:
Doesn't every girl dream of getting something from Tiffany's? On 5th Avenue in New York City, two very different men are shopping for gifts for the women they love. Gary is buying his girlfriend Rachel a charm bracelet. Partly to thank her for paying for their holiday-of-a-lifetime to New York. But mainly because he's left his shopping far too late. Whereas Ethan's looking for something a little more special - an engagement ring for the first woman to have made him happy since he lost the love of his life. But when the two men's shopping bags get confused, and Rachel somehow ends up with Ethan's ring, the couples' lives become intertwined. As Ethan tries to reunite the ring with the woman it was actually intended for, he discovers this isn't that easy. Does fate have other ideas for the couples? Or is there simply a bit of Tiffany's magic in the air..

Rain slows down time

I am truly starting to believe that rain can slow down time. It has been raining on and off since Monday morning and it feels as though it should now be Friday. It is only Wednesday. I spent all day thinking it was Thursday today and was all excited to watch Grey's Anatomy. I got home and was sorely disappointed to find out that it's Wednesday. Not only does that mean no Grey's Anatomy, it also means that tomorrow is not Friday. Two more days to go until I can catch up on some wonderful sleep!

I am kind of wishing I were here right now:

Book Sculptures

Sticking with the book theme, I recently heard of book sculptures and have found some really stunning pictures of some examples. I love these!
