Lesson #2 of the week

Taking ballet lesson for a couple of years as a child does not mean it's a good idea to attempt to show your students different ballet jumps in dance class. This will result in knee cracking, pain and being unable to walk for the weekend. It will then be followed up with physio-therapy, an X-ray and a knee brace. From now on I will leave it up to YouTube to show the kids how to dance.

Lesson of the week

This week I have learned that it is a very bad idea to eat things that students "cook" or "bake" at home and then bring to school to share with the class. This is a guaranteed stomach ache! Even though I was picky about my choices (not eating things from students who typically have their fingers up their nose) I still feel quite sick to my stomach.

Kids say the darnest things!!

Leave it to the kids at school to make me question my appearance. This morning I put on one of my favourite sweaters and a new pair of dress pants. These pants are plaid and I think they look dressy. I was proven wrong. I did not question my outfit choice until I got to the kindergarten class at school. The minute I walked in one of the kids yelled "Mme!! Is it PJ day today??" I honestly had no clue why they were asking me that question. When I asked her why she thought it was PJ day she said "because you're wearing you PJ pants, silly!!" I ignored the comment only to have another kid walk by and say "Mme, why are you in your jammies??" And to add insult to injury, during a lunch duty one of my gr 5s asked me why I was wearing PJ pants. I left the house feeling pretty good about my outfit choice and a few hours later I could not wait to get home to change. I will never be wearing those pants to school again!

Teen Fiction

I enjoy Teen Fiction. When I read I try to alternate between genres and right now I am reading a book I found in the Teen Fiction section at Chapters. For the past few years I have been reluctant to pick up any books from that section because I was afraid that I would be reading something that I could no longer relate to. I was very wrong. Sometimes I find I relate more to the young adult books than to the adult books. There seems to be a wonder, energy and adventure that is not always present in adult books. Right now I am reading:

Sarah Dessen - The Truth About Forever

Macy's summer stretches before her, carefully planned and outlined. She will spend her days sitting at the library information desk. She will spend her evenings studying for the SATs. Spare time will be used to help her obsessive mother prepare for the big opening of the townhouse section of her luxury development. But Macy's plans don't anticipate a surprising and chaotic job with Wish Catering, a motley crew of new friends, or ... Wes. Tattooed, artistic, anything-but-expected Wes. He doesn't fit Macy's life at all--so why does she feel so comfortable with him? So ... happy? What is it about him that makes her let down her guard and finally talk about how much she misses her father, who died before her eyes the year before?

Almost NYC time!!

I haven't posted on here for a while. Things have been insanely busy since the last time I posted. I have been teaching gr 5 and 6 for the past few months and I just finished report cards. I am super excited to be going to NYC in a few weeks for some shopping therapy. I was hoping to get over there this summer but taking my FSL course kept me from being able to make the trip. Luckily I have a PD day at the end of this month that allows me to fly down for the weekend. I cannot wait to visit my favourite city!!
